OVERTON was built by Camper & Nicholson of Gosport in 1956 as Yard Number 796. Although she was allocated a ‘TON’ name, she was transferred to the Royal Indian Navy and re-named KARWAR. She stayed in service with the R.I.N for 25 years before being decommissioned in 1981.

Significant for coal mining from 1789 to1985, when former capstone Colliery was converted into the National Mining Museum.
