OULSTON was built by Thorneycroft at Woolston, Southampton. Yard Number 4153 and was placed in to reserve at Hythe for 14 years.

She was sold to the Irish Navy  In 1970 and re-named LE GRAINNE

Name derives from the Saxon "Ulf's Farm"

Prehistoric barrow burials and earthworks are nearby and the remains of a Roman Villa have been found.

Mentioned in the Domesday Book, the lands passed through several Norman families following the Conquest in 1066.
