
DUNKERTON was built by Goole Shipyard Yard Number 491.
Commissioned into the South African Navy on 22nd August 1955 and re-named ‘PRETORIA‘. After being laid Up in December 1985, she was bought by Mr Charles Bates and used as a museum ship in Hout Bay SA. She was later sold on and completely revamped and re-named ‘M/V MADIBA then GOLDEN FIREFLY. She was scrapped in 2010.

After the Norman Conquest the land was granted to Turstin Fitzrolf, described as a "valiant warrior" at the Battle of Hastings.
During 18 and 19th centuries, several coal mines were opened in the area. They were the scene of riots in 1908-09 protesting about working conditions.
Parts of the Ealing Comedy "Tichfield Thunderbolt", still to be seen on TV were made in the area.
