VILLAGE

In South Lanarkshire, Scotland, between Biggar and Lanark.

Name comes from the feudal lord Thoncard, possibly a Flemish knight (aka mercenary) who accompanied King David1 to gain the throne.

To the west is the hamlet of Eastend which was used by the Polish Army in exile in 1940-41.

No significant historical events recorded.
