SAS WINDHOEK,  M1498, was built by Thorneycroft at Southampton as Yard Number 4174 in 1957-8 to a specification produced by the South African Navy, like SAS DURBAN.

Minesweeping equipment was the same as RN fit but habitability was much improved with air conditioning and increased fresh water storage,

Commissioned at DILIGENCE in April 1958, she was delivered to Simonstown in June.

She was deployed on patrols and exercises and retired from service in 1991 when South Africa reviewed its MCM policy. The ship was dismantled in August 2003
