PLOVER was built prior to the Second World War, as a coastal minelayer. After the war she was attached to HMS VERNON and later HMS LOCHINVAR, in the Firth of Forth, where she was used as a Support Ship for the TONS, until her replacement, HMS ABDIEL, was completed in 1967. She was broken up just along the Scottish coast, at Inverkeithing, in 1969.
