Cdr Nobby Hall Memorial Dinner

Tony Birr and Friends of Commander Nobby Hall are organising a Memorial Dinner to him on 25th September at the Naval and Military Club, 4 St James Square London SW1 4JU.  18:30hrs until 22:00hrs, followed by a cash bar until the small hours

An evening to remember a man who gave so much to all our lives, to regale some “Dits”, at Nobby’s London residence of 39 years, delivered in a manner befitting Nobby himself. Need we say any more !

Accommodation available at members' rates Email: for a booking form with further details of the evening.

You are welcome to attend before the formal start time and meet up with friends before the formalities of the evening. The formal part of the evening will end at 22:00hrs prompt. This is to allow those wishing to catch a late train time. However, the evening will continue well into the small hours in the club’s Long Bar.

For 39 years Nobby was a member of this club and to many he was part of the furniture. Throughout his long and and often adventurous career, the club was one of the few constants in his life and sanctuary where Nobby was often at his best. More of that during the evening.

The club is just a two minute walk from Piccadilly Tube station. The club can call you a cab at the end of the evening if required and for those wish to stay for a night or two you will receive the discounted members rates. Details of accommodation below.

Dress code Mess Dress / Black Tie & Decorations Whilst this is a formal dinner befitting Nobby, he was infamous for including everyone and so Veterans without Black Tie, the dress code is relaxed to include what we would describe as “Veterans Association Uniform” Jacket, association / ship / regimental tie, smart trousers and black shoes etc

Dits Nobby was famous for his Dits so how we could not make this part of the evening. There will be no formal speeches, instead, we are going to invite friends to stand up at various points during the evening to regale their Dit about a memorable occasion with Nobby. Chatham House rules apply Need we say anymore! One rule limited to 5 mins Nobby’s wishes and instructions to Helen Before his passing Nobby left a series of wishes and instructions, during the evening we will deliver on one of those instructions. All will be revealed on the night, but we ask all attendees to complete the section below on how, when and in what circumstances they knew Nobby.

Three course formal dinner including wine The evening will start with pre dinner drinks followed by a three-course meal, port coffee and a poignant table treat.
